The numbers related to childhood cancer are staggering. With more than 300,000 being diagnosed each year, including 43 children a day in the United States, it is important to raise awareness about childhood cancer. September has been designated as childhood cancer awareness month. It is not all bad news when it comes to childhood cancer, particularly in terms of the treatments being performed at St. Jude. When they started over 50 years ago, only 20% of the children diagnosed with cancer survived. That percentage is now above 80%. They continue to launch initiatives and won’t stop until they can reach a 100% survival rate.
You can be a part of ending childhood and adolescent cancer by donating and taking part in fundraising events. You can make an impact on cancer and also be part of helping St. Jude support families dealing with their child’s cancer. Since St. Jude does not charge families, it relies on the generosity and compassion of the public. It is also important to note that they freely share the research they do so that it isn’t just children treated at St. Jude who benefit—children all over the world do!
At Jordan Homes of NC, we appreciate the work that St. Jude has done over the past 50+ years, their support of families and children with cancer, and their unwavering commitment to putting an end to childhood cancer. We hope that you will support them, not just during childhood cancer awareness month, but throughout the year and in the years ahead.
